According to related studies, probiotics may have unique advantages in skin diseases of dark spots due to their naturalness and anti-inflammatory activity, antioxidant, UV protection, and tyrosinase activity inhibition; and it is known that the intestinal flora can directly affect the health of the skin, so whether probiotic products can be used to improve Melasma is worth trying. Synbiotics (also known as synbiotics) are emerging products that combine probiotics and prebiotics. In addition to providing active probiotics, it also provides prebiotics, which not only increases exogenous good bacteria but improves the good bacteria in one's own intestinal tract. Completely enhancing the appeal of health is the trend of probiotic products today.
The Mae Fah Luang University Hospital of Bangkok are using Taiwan's probiotics manufacturer-Tensall Biotechnology to produce the symbiotic-TS6 Probiotic. The selected skin category belongs to Fitzpatrick skin type III-VI( (I.e. Asians) and 57 Thai women with severe Melasma on both cheeks (assessed by mMASI score) were divided into the experimental group (29 persons, each taking 1 packet of TS6 Probiotic per day for 12 weeks) and the control group ( 28 persons, each took 1 pack of placebo every day for 12 weeks), and recorded the scores of each participant’s Melasma with mMASI scores on the starting day, fourth week, eighth week, and 12th week to observe symbiosis The effect of Synbiotics on Melasma.Results reveal the average scores of the four records in the experimental group were 7.54 ± 0.79, 7.36 ± 0.80, 7.16 ± 0.73, and 6.98 ± 0.72, while the average scores of the four records in the control group were 7.51 ± 0.86, 7.52 ± 0.88. , 7.54 ± 0.86, and 7.54 ± 0.89. The comparison between the two groups showed that the mMASI score of the experimental group taking TS6 Probiotic for 12 weeks was significantly lower than the control group taking placebo for 12 weeks. Although this clinical trial has not confirmed the possible real mode of action, it shows that taking Synbiotics every day may improve the symptoms of Melasma and add another possible evidence for the health claims of probiotics.
